According to the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Dictionary, megemping means a type of snack made from young rice or from belinjau fruit (which is pounded and thinly pounded). In the past, rice flakes were very popular as a side dish, especially among farmers’ families. Mengemping is usually done after harvesting the rice and is done collaboratively. This activity is highly anticipated by the villagers, especially the children.
Every manufacturing process starts from taking glutinous rice that is still young in the rice field until mixing it with other additives such as grated coconut filling with salt and sugar. This camping activity can bring back the practice of the local community to getong-royong and together plant and harvest rice.
